XIII. - C. - 2. INTERNET USAGE AGREEMENT
The Meadows Valley Public Library Internet service enables the
Meadows Valley Public Library to expand its reference information
services by providing access to unique resources worldwide. Patrons
are encouraged to use these services for their information and
educational needs. Electronic information, services and networks
provided directly or indirectly by the Meadows Valley Public Library
will be readily, equally and equitably accessible at no charge to all
library users. Use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right.
General Rules & Procedures
1. Before using the Internet workstation, patrons must register with the
library attendant, read the Internet Usage policy and have a signed
Internet Usage Agreement on file.
2. The use of the Internet workstation will be limited to ½ hour time
slots and accessed on a first come, first served basis. An additional
thirty (30) minutes may be approved as needed for research.
3. Patrons must have a current library card in good standing to use
the Internet. The Library Director may allow out of area patrons to use
the Internet at his/her discretion.
4. Patrons will use the Internet workstation and resources in a
responsible and ethical manner:
a. Users will not attempt to modify, alter or damage software or
equipment.
b. The library is an inappropriate place to view pornographic materials
or transfer illegal materials.
c. Internet users displaying information unsuitable for viewing in the
library may have Internet access restricted in the future.
d. Users will not represent themselves as another person.
5. Users will not use chat lines on library computers
6. Users may use e-mail in an appropriate manner.
7. Only two people will be allowed at the Internet workstation at a time.
8. Users may not use their software programs on any library computers.
9. Software downloads from the Internet may contain a virus. NO DOWNLOADING IS PERMITTED. Printouts are available at
.154 per page for black and $1.00 for color.
10. Parents of minor children MUST ASSUME
RESPONSIBILITY for their children’s use of the Internet
through the library’s connections. Children under 12 must have
a parent/guardian with them to use the Internet. Children under 18
must have a parent/guardians signed Internet Usage Agreement on
file.
11. No purchases will be made via the library’s Internet connections.
There is no security for credit card numbers or account numbers in the
library’s software.
12. The library staff may at times restrict Internet availability.
13. If a patron encounters technical problems during an Internet
session, they should notify the staff immediately. These problems will
be corrected as staff time and expertise allows.
14. Staff reserves the right to monitor equipment use.
15. Users must not incur any charges or expenses during data
searching or Internet use. 16. Library staff may determine if this
policy has been violated and may suspend computer privileges.
17. Violation of any part of this agreement may result in the loss of
library privileges.
The Meadows Valley Public Library does not endorse the viewpoints
or vouch for the accuracy or authenticity of electronic information.
The Meadows Valley Public Library Board reserves the right to modify
and enforce these rules at any time.
